Here’s an intriguing work of arresting beauty: Only a Witch can Fly, written by @alisonmcgheewriter and illustrated by @yooillustration. A young girl longs to be able to fly out into the night. Called forth by the moon and stars, she mounts her broomstick and, with the support of a black cat, a brown bat, and a loving younger brother, she rises into the air. Her maiden voyage carries her high above her town, over the lands beyond, across the sky, and back into her family’s loving arms. McGhee’s expressive second-person verse, taking loose inspiration from the poetic form of the sestina, bursts with lilting anapestic rhythm. Yoo supplies bold graphic art cut from linoleum blocks and printed with ink in rich black, earthy brown, deep orange, pale green, and bright white. #witch #fly #night #sky #moon #cat #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
