For a fascinating exercise in postmodern storytelling, see what you make of The Rose and the Tree Frog by Warja Lavater. The art, though unaccompanied by text, conveys a definite narrative. Visual elements on each page operate not only as illustrations but as encoded symbols. A key at the beginning of the book relates each figure to a passage of text, such that the story can be followed through the abstract action of each page. A word about the form: Lavater’s distinctive creation is considered an example of an Artist’s Book, a form in which the medium of the book functions as an art object in itself. #rose #frog #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookcover #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
