The book of the day is The Fifth and Final Sun, an Aztec creation myth adapted and illustrated by C. Shana Greger. In a primordial time, the earth is dim, lit only by the White Evening Star God until she bursts after a pointed insult from Tezcatlipoca, The God of the Night. After that, Tezcatlipoca himself becomes the first sun, followed by a succession of gods: Quetzalcoatl, God of the Wind, then Tlalloc, God of Rain, Thunder, and Lightning, then Tlalloc’s wife Chalchihuitlicue, Goddess of the Waters, and finally the humble Nanautzin, known as the Scabby-Pimply one. Greger’s retelling conveys the scale and spectacle of the clashes of the gods, and her art dazzles with dynamic composition and glowing, saturated color. #sun #earth #star #night #wind #rain #thunder #lightning #water #aztec #creation #book #books #childrensbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
