And, just like that, Halloween is upon us. Come celebrate with me as I relax and enjoy this picture book adaptation of Harry Behn’s classic children’s poem Halloween, with illustrations by Greg Couch. Three rollicking stanzas detail the devilish doings of strange creatures making merry in the dark. Behn’s language employs internal rhyme (“Tonight is the night/When dead leaves fly/Like witches on switches/Across the sky”) and iambic rhythm (“When ghoul and ghost/And goblin host/Dance round their queen./It’s Halloween!”) to draw the reader into a world of mischief and magic. Behn’s accompanying pastel-textured art presents three child characters in costume as a devil, a witch, and a skeleton encountering the horde of monsters, befriending them with an exchange of candy, and joining them in a raucous supernatural bacchanal. Happy Halloween. #trickortreat #halloween #book #books #childrensbooks #fairytalebook #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
