For an uproarious good time, I heartily recommend James Thurber’s original tale The Great Quillow, illustrated by Steven Kellogg. A quiet town is threatened by the arrival of the terrible giant Hunder, who demands a daily tribute of three sheep, a pie baked from a thousand apples, a chocolate the size of a wagon wheel, and other extravagances that will soon beggar the community. Only Quillow the toymaker is clever enough to construct a plan to outwit the giant, beguiling him with nonsensical stories and gaslighting him until he flees in panic and throws himself into the sea. Thurber’s eloquent writing style and merry sense of humor make for a delightful comic adventure, while the eye-popping colors and expressive line art of Kellogg’s images hit each beat of the story with an irresistibly zany energy. #giant #town #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookcover #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
