Jean Merrill and Ronni Solbert’s The Elephant Who Liked to Smash Small Cars: it’s all right there in the title, isn’t it? This book operates on the beautifully simple yet outrageous premise of an elephant who loves nothing more than jumping on cars and utterly crushing them. The owner of a car dealership plagued by the malicious animal can’t just stand by and watch his merchandise destroyed. What is the man to do? Why, replace his stock of small cars with big ones, of course, and use them to smash the elephant. Merrill’s deadpan writing and Solbert’s brightly colored miniature-style drawings come to life with the inclusion of the elephant’s devious and destructive little song (later appropriated by the dealership owner) written out with notes on a musical staff. At the end of it all, having laid their quarrel to rest, man and beast achieve a lasting peace—and a reprieve from the cartoonishly hilarious violence. #elephant #smash #small #cars #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
