On Thanksgiving, I look around and remind myself just how lucky I am to have all the things that keep me nourished, safe, and comfortable. For a volume that captures a bit of that gratitude, here’s The House in the Night by Susan Marie Swanson and Beth Krommes. The poetic text pushes slowly and gently inward from a house to a bed to a book to illustrations of a light and darkness within. We then reverse course, pulling outward to find that same glowing light and sweet darkness in the world all around. Swanson creates a soothing text in the form of a “nesting rhyme”, inspired by “This Is the Key to the Kingdom” and other traditional nursery rhymes; Krommes provides black and white scratchboard art with spots of warm yellow watercolor. The book fills me with delight and relaxation, and I hope that feeling reaches out and envelops all of you and your loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving. #house #night #key #light #bird #song #dark #moon #sun #book #books #childrensbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
