Elsa Beskow depicts a tight-knit group working together to help a beloved friend and community member in Peter’s Old House. The story unfolds through the first-person narration of a young boy who lives in a small village. He and his friends spend their days with Peter, a former sailor who entertains the children with toys, music, and stories of his time at sea. A veritable Jack-of-all-trades, Peter also cares for the sick and injured, and makes small home repairs—all out of the goodness of his heart. When a local official tells Peter that his house is derelict and must be torn down, the children band together and repair the little cottage with materials gleaned from their parents’ trade shops. Beskow’s winning story, originally published in Swedish as Herr Peter, comes to life with a series of cheerful, brightly colored vignette illustrations. #old #house #village #friend #friends #friendship #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
