The book of the day is Bushy Bride, a Norwegian fairy tale illustrated by Seymour Chwast. A maiden lives with her stepmother and stepsister. Sent to fetch water, she is confronted by three ugly heads, one of whom wants to be washed, another brushed, and the last kissed. After she complies with their wishes, the heads gift her with extraordinary beauty and an endless supply of gold. Her stepsister, however, does not fare quite as well; after spurning the heads, she is given a protruding nose and jaw, a bush growing from her forehead, and an endless supply of ashes. When the King wishes to marry the young woman, the treacherous stepmother contrives to have the stepsister presented as the bride in her place. Chwast’s naive-style art creates an expressionistic atmosphere for the bizarre events of the tale. #bride #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #fairytalebook #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
