In Night Circus, Etienne Delessert presents a surreal sequence of images in the form of an odd circus train. While out walking his dog, the unnamed protagonist witnesses his own pet cat driving a racecar. Behind is attached a line of ten flatbeds carrying incredible things, some quietly beautiful (angels playing chess, an old-time Bluegrass fiddler, a snow globe filled with butterflies) and some outrageously bizarre (three clowns in the form of Franz Kafka, Samuel Beckett, and Eugene O’Neill, a pack of mad dogs performing music, three pigs slicing a wolf pie, an alligator getting its nails painted). The circus train Delessert’s first-person narrative moves hypnotically along, paired with delightfully inscrutable illustrations. #night #circus #train #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
