Come, gather your nerves and open up Anthea Bell and Keiko Kaichi’s adaptation of the Brothers Grimm’s The Wolf & the Seven Kids. A mother, preparing to leave the house in search of food, bids her seven kids goodbye. Before she departs, however, she warns the children about the hungry wolf that wants to get inside. Sure enough, as soon as she is gone, the wicked beast begins knocking at the door. When the kids refuse to let him in, the wolf employs all his cunning to disguise the telltale signs that distinguish him from the mother goat: he eats a lump of chalk to make his voice soft and coats his paws in floured dough to make them white. Finally, the seven young goats let him in and all but one are swallowed whole. Fortunately, the mother goat bravely tracks down the sleeping wolf, cuts open his belly, pulls out her children, and replaces them with stones, whereupon the terrible predator falls into a deep well and is never seen again. Bell faithfully translates the Grimms’ thrilling tale, and Kaichi provides exaggerated character design that heightens the contrast between the adorable young kids and the ghastly wolf. #wolf #goat #goats #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
