You’ll get a chuckle out of this adaptation of the English folktale Master of All Masters by Marcia Sewall. A young woman take a job as a servant for an eccentric gentleman who has a strange nickname for each item in his home. He wishes to be referred to as “Master of all Masters”, his bed is his “barnacle”, his pants are “squibs and crackers”, his cat is “white-faced simminy”, the fire is “hot cockalorum”, the water is “pondalorum”, and the house itself is “high topper mountain”. At night, when a fire breaks out, the servant finds that she must construct a sentence containing every single one of these ridiculous monikers—an event that effectively serves as the punchline to the entire bizarre premise. Sewall provides enjoyable hatched black and white drawings that gently underscore the farcical humor of the situation. #master #masters #house #cat #fire #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
