The book of the day is Night Wall by @duncan_weller—a story that mixes the uncanny and the comforting in equal measure. Young Sarah and her older cousin Julie go for a vacation in the woods north of their urban home. Feeling nervous out in the wilderness, Julie hires a contractor to build a wall around their cabin. However, as soon as the wall is complete, disturbing monsters begin to creep over from the other side. It is not until the construction crew returns and knocks down the wall that the weird apparitions vanish. After that, Sarah and Julie take a walk in the woods and discover the odd beasts as miniature figurines in a buried chest. Just what are the monsters? Why do they leave when the wall is taken down? Do they have their own independent existence or are they a physical manifestation of Julie’s anxiety. In his straightforward text and eerie illustrations, Weller carefully leaves the intriguing central questions of his work unanswered. #night #wall #woods #forest #monster #monsters #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
