Arnold Lobel’s The Man Who Took the Indoors Out finds humor and boisterous energy in a wry story of heightened reality. Bellwood Bouse hits upon the wacky idea of inviting his personal belongings to enjoy the outside world with him. At first, the vast collection of inanimate objects bounces along behind him in a merry parade. Eventually, the items rush ahead and disappear into the distance. Bouse is left alone and dejected for months until his indoor things return one winter day, torn, bedraggled, and a little the worse for wear. Lobel pairs his trademark hatched illustrations with playful rhyming couplets in anapestic dimeter to produce a gentle cautionary tale of a good idea taken a step too far. #man #indoor #indoors #out #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
