Stay a while with me and look at this adaptation of the Brothers Grimm tale The Three Feathers, illustrated by Eleonore Schmid. A king, wishing to choose a successor from among his three sons, decides to put them all to the test: they must obtain the most beautiful carpet, then the most beautiful ring, then the most beautiful bride, to prove their worth. At each task, he blows three feathers into the air for the princes to follow, and the youngest (saddled with the cruel nickname “Simpleton”) is left with the one feather that drops straight to the ground. This seeming misfortune reveals a trapdoor that leads to the underground home of a tribe of sentient toads. Their leader provides Simpleton with everything he needs to win the challenges and take his place as heir to his father’s throne. Schmidt’s smooth-textured illustrations provide an even blend of magic and mystery. #three #feathers #king #prince #toad #carpet #ring #bride #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
