For a timely environmental fable bound up in a glorious visual style, I present to you The Seekers, created by husband-and-wife team Harikrishnan Panicker and Deepti Nair, better known as @harianddeepti. When their life-giving river dries up, residents of the valley of Krum set off to discover the source of the problem. Siblings Mio and Nao lead a small band of companions over a desolate landscape, up through a series of gem-strewn caverns, and out into the land beyond, where foolish people have cut down trees to fuel the engines of industry, incurring the elemental fury of the legendary Fire Wolf. Only the great beast’s spiritual counterpart, the Silver Fox, can quell the rampage, but where has the Silver Fox gone? It is up to the plucky group of adventurers to solve the mystery and heal the land. Pairing their serenely captivating text with resplendent cut-paper art, Hari and Deepti fashion an original tale that feels at once timeless and modern. Of particular note is the authors’ choice to omit text on two full-page spreads, conveying the climactic sequence of the Silver Fox’s mesmerizing resurrection purely through illustration. #fire #wolf #silver #fox #river #land #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
