The Red String, conceived by Margot Blair and illustrated by Greg Colson, makes me smile. To see why, you need only open it up. This zany wordless volume free-associates from one environment to another with blinding speed thanks to a clever visual device. A ball of red yarn in a chest of drawers unwinds itself and runs across each page, always interpreted (and used) by the various characters in completely different ways. The twisting strand becomes in then a jump rope, a clothesline, a a tightrope, an air tube, a safety tether, parcel twine, a road map route, telephone wire, spaghetti…finally, the string coils itself into a sentient dog and barks at a cat before winding itself obligingly into another harmless ball of yarn in another chest of drawers. Blair and Colson offer a charming sequence replete with comedy and creativity in equal measure. #red #string #ball #yarn #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
