For a gentle portrait of a character from the margins of history, try Galileo’s Treasure Box by Catherine Brighton. Virginia, daughter of Galileo Galilei, lives a happy life in seventeenth-century Italy. When she sees a mysterious box in her father’s study, she cannot resist opening it. Inside are two clear lenses, two pieces of colored glass, and a feather. Though she does not understand the items’ significance, examining their physical properties inspires her and brings her closer to her father. Brighton’s measured, thoughtful first-person narrative and elegant paintings create a tender imagined vision of a young girl’s experience. #treasure #box #glass #feather #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
