Brothers to Birds Week flies ever on, and today I’ve been reading Matt Faulkner’s adaptation of The Twelve Wild Geese. Faulkner creates a lively energy in his illustrations through loose, sketched lines and prominent cross-hatching, all overlaid on rich watercolor washes. His characters convey emotion through vivid facial expression and highly exaggerated anatomy—particularly the young king’s stepmother, a hulking figure who looms over the rest of the court with smirks and scowls, brandishing sharp talons. A note for folklore enthusiasts: this tale was originally collected by Patrick Kennedy in The Fireside Stories of Ireland in 1870. #brother #brothers #sister #bird #birds #goose #geese #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
