Thus far, my Brothers into Birds sequence has remained focused on the fairy tale The Six Swans. For the remainder of the week I will be investigating other variants of this same type. Today I have The Seven Ravens, illustrated by Henriette Sauvant. The evocative illustrations convey a fascinating combination of formal grandeur and surreal imagery. Like The Six Swans, The Seven Ravens was first published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812, in the first edition of Kinder- und Hausmärchen—under the title The Three Ravens. Only in the second edition was the number changed to seven. #brother #brothers #sister #bird #birds #raven #ravens #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
