Here is a look at the sweet and intriguing On Cat Mountain by Françoise Richard and Anne Buguet. Sho is a servant girl whose only companion is a little black cat named Secret. One day her mistress, who hates cats, discovers the pet and scares it off into the street. A wise fortune-teller advises the despondent maiden that what she has lost can be found on Cat Mountain. After a long journey, Sho discovers that Cat Mountain is inhabited by cats that can appear in human form, who reward her kindness with a bag of gold. When the greedy mistress makes the same trip, hoping for a similar prize, she finds only death: the cats attack and devour her. Richard’s text, translated from French by Arthur A. Levine, honors the connection between humans and cats, while Buguet’s illustrations convey the stark difference between the expressions of the humble Sho and the arrogant mistress. #cat #mountain #cats #gold #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
