When you’re growing up and still getting used to the ways of the world, change can be difficult. A single unfamiliar element can make your ordinary routine feel completely off-kilter. Changes by Anthony Browne uses visual metaphor to explore this very thought process. Joseph Kaye is home alone. His father, before going out to pick up his mother, mentioned that things were going to change. In contemplating this mysterious hint, Joseph begins to notice strange things around the house—a kettle becoming a cat, an armchair turning into a gorilla, a soccer ball morphing into an egg and hatching a stork, a bicycle wheel transforming into an apple. Finally, his parents arrive home, holding in their arms one very important change: a newborn baby. Browne renders the wild possibilities suggested by Joseph’s confused imagination literally on the page, setting up normal scenarios through his limited text and unleashing their oddball potential in his delightfully surreal art. #changes #change #weird #strange #transform #transformation #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
