If you’re in the mood for a merry adventure, Jim Aylesworth and @barbaramcclintockart’s The Gingerbread Man should do the trick. The story opens with a little old man and a little old woman. The two decide to embark upon a baking project, and they set to work right away. Together they form a man out of gingerbread and decorate him with raisins and sugar glaze. To their surprise, the little creature jumps out of the oven and leads them on a frantic chase through a town and across the countryside, taunting them in rhyme as he flees. Eventually he winds up the unwitting snack of a wily fox, and his pursuers must leave empty-handed and disappointed. Aylesworth crafts a pleasing narrative with an engaging storyteller’s voice. McClintock portrays the title character as a delightfully charismatic pint-sized rascal and, fascinatingly, depicts the animals as strange, half-human hybrids. #ginger #bread #gingerbread #man #woman #butcher #cow #pig #fox #book #books #childrensbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
