Did you often go swimming when you were a child? Did you peer into the water and imagine all sorts of strange sights down below? In that case, read JiHyeon Lee’s wordless Pool and you just might feel a pang of familiarity. A young boy goes swimming and immediately encounters a raucous crowd. He cautiously dives into the pool and swims down beneath the tumult, toward the bottom where he encounters a girl. Together, they explore the depths and find all manner of exotic marine life: schools of tiny fish, a forest of coral, horned snakes slithering out of holes, sharp-toothed sea beasts, many-legged spiders, and even a furry white whale. The children finally emerge from the pool, bonded by their fantastical shared experience. Without text, Lee lets her visual imagination run wild, presenting myriad bizarre designs and transitioning from black and white to color as the action moves away from the dull chatter of the pool patrons to the vibrant aquatic menagerie below. #pool #boy #girl #swim #swimmer #swimming #water #fish #coral #whale #spider #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #picturebook #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
