Come follow me on a fanciful adventure through the landscape of imagination in Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury’s beloved classic We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. A family treks across a sweeping countryside. On and on they go, moving tirelessly forward in search of a bear. With each obstacle or landmark they reach—grass, a river, mud, a forest, a snowstorm, a cave—they determine that they can’t go over it and can’t go under it; instead they must march intrepidly through. Finally encountering a bear, they find it much more than they bargained for and dash pell-mell back across the land, retracing their steps until they arrive safely at home. The rollicking rhythm of Rosen’s text makes reading out loud endlessly enjoyable and serves as the opportunity for irresistibly lively creative dramatic games. Oxenbury brings the rhyme to life with alternating greyscale and full-color illustrations of the lush scenery. She also inserts a poignant detail on the book’s back endpaper—the dejected bear trudging home to its cave all alone by moonlight. #bear #hunt #grass #river #mud #forest #snowstorm #cave #family #adventure #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
