In honor of the remarkable Dennis Nolan, here is the engaging story of a ragtag group of travelers striking bravely out into the unknown: Hunters of the Great Forest. Seven tiny humans leave their little village with great fanfare and trek off through the wilderness on an important expedition. Each member of the team carries a different item: a walking stick, a telescope, a magnifying glass, a spear, a knapsack, a bedroll, and a mysterious map that leads them on a path over large rocks and past towering trees. Each animal they pass (a snail, a dragonfly, a toad, a blue jay, a chipmunk) represents a strange new curiosity or a danger narrowly escaped. Finally, they arrive at their quarry: a campfire with a bag of marshmallows lying on the ground, waiting to be toasted. They carry a marshmallow back to their community, divide it happily among their brethren, and eat it as they share stories of their great journey. Nolan imbues his wordless adventure with action, intrigue, humor, and heart. Lacking visible mouths, the little wanderers convey emotion through body language in the appealing illustrations, executed in pen and ink, watercolor, and colored pencil on watercolor board. Rest in peace, Mr. Nolan. #hunters #great #forest #hunter #animals #explore #explorer #adventure #adventurer #journey #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
