The book of the day is The Legend of Sea Glass by Trinka Hakes Noble and Doris Ettlinger. The story opens in a time when humans believe the world is flat and therefore remain on land for fear of sailing too close to the edge and falling off. A pod of mermaids lives in peace, exploring the magnificent ocean depths and occasionally rising to the surface to bask in the sunshine. One day they rescue a young boy from drowning and return him to his father’s fishing boat. From this fateful moment on, stories of the lovely beings’ existence begin to spread, and people lose their fear of the sea. When sailors inevitably perish on the water, the mermaids weep beautiful tears, which the ocean magically preserved as sea glass. Noble’s eloquent text and Ettlinger’s colorful illustrations come together for a fanciful and endearing etiology. #legend #sea #glass #seaglass #ocean #mermaid #mermaids #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
