Maurice Sendak creates an irresistible modern take on nursery rhymes in Bumble-Ardy. A young pig, wishing to celebrate his ninth birthday, invites over an enormous crowd of friends while his Aunt Adeline is out at work. When she returns and finds the revelers consuming her food and drink, she chases them all away in a rage—though she cannot stay angry at her beloved nephew for too long. Sendak’s merry original tale in free verse uses lines of varying length, most rhyming with the word “nine” (the willful pig’s current age). His illustrations depict the ragtag party guests as a jumble of wide-eyed, motley miscreants. #pig #birthday #party #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
