Elvira Woodruff and Stephen Gammell concoct a quirky original tale of homesickness and magic realism in The Wing Shop. Matthew does not like his family’s new home on Finley Street. He wishes for nothing more than the ability to return to his house on Main Street, where everything is familiar. One day, he follows a pigeon to Featherman’s Wing Shop, where the proprietor’s granddaughter Lucy outfits him with a series of wings to try out. A pair of white and gray sea gull wings plunges him into the salty ocean, and a leathery pair of bat wings hangs him upside-down in a barn. A sturdy pair of biplane wings does indeed carry him back to Main Street, where he sees his old house, now unrecognizable. Finally at peace with his new living situation, he dons a pair of bee wings and flies off to Finley Street.
