Today I am delighted to present the first chapter in a trilogy that I consider the premiere wordless picture book achievement of the past decade: @storybreathing’s Journey. Unable to hook her family’s attention, a girl sits at home, bored and alone. Suddenly she spots something bright red. Is it a crayon? A marker? A piece of chalk? No matter. She picks it up, makes a door on her bedroom wall, passes through, and suddenly finds herself in an alternate universe, a thrilling fantasy world of high action and adventure. She travels across the mysterious landscape from an ethereal forest hung with glowing lanterns to a grand castle crisscrossed by locks and canals to a massive and imposing airship above the clouds to a city of domes and minarets to a desert under a starry sky. All the while, she uses her drawing implement to create handy vehicles—a rowboat, a hot air balloon, a flying carpet. Finally, she returns to her own familiar world, only to discover that she may not be as alone as she thinks. With an impressive range of techniques—digital modeling as a base, then pen and ink, watercolor, and gouache—Becker invites the reader into a timeless and uniquely marvelous adventure. #journey #door #forest #boat #castle #balloon #draw #drawing #imagination #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
