Here is a deep dive into part two of a truly epic wordless trilogy. Quest by @storybreathing both continues the story begun in the previous book Journey and adds subtle layers of complexity to the mythology of the fantasy world. The girl and the boy, having grasped the magic of the red and purple pencils—or are they pastels?—take shelter from the rain under a bridge, accompanied by their trusty purple bird companion. Suddenly, a door opens and a king emerges to gift them with a bandolier, a third color implement (orange), and a wondrous map. After the king is seized by enemy soldiers, the two young friends travel across hitherto unseen regions of the supernatural realm, collecting other drawing tools as they go: a yellow one from a sunken city, a green one from a jungle tower, and a blue one from a mountain shrine. Once the bandolier is full, the bird grabs it and flies off to send a miraculous rainbow streaking across the sky, preserving the kingdom in its hour of need. At last, the boy and girl return to the world they know, content in their achievement. With a dazzling array of techniques—digital modeling as a base, then pen and ink, watercolor, and gouache—Becker thrillingly expands the scope of his sweeping visual work. #quest #king #underwater #jungle #mountain #rainbow #draw #drawing #adventure #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
