Aladdin Week comes gently to a rest, and to finish I am perusing Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp, a retelling by Philip Pullman and Sophy Williams. Pullman explores a wealth of fascinating details in his eloquent and expansive retelling, while Williams contributes art in vivid colors and powerful perspectives. A note for folklore enthusiasts: In an author’s note, Pullman observes that the tale is set in China. The Moorish sorcerer’s journey from the Maghreb all the way to China in search of the lamp would represent to Middle Eastern listeners a search from the westernmost to the the easternmost extremes of the world. #aladdin #magician #cave #ring #lamp #princess #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
