I am flying on the wind with this Week of Aladdins, and on the way relishing Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, a resplendent retelling by Carol and Donald Carrick. Both text and illustrations employ bold colors and dynamic perspective to heighten the drama of the tale. A note for folklore enthusiasts: Strikingly, Carol Carrick includes the concluding episode left out of most modern iterations of the tale, in which the magician’s ruthless brother murders a holy woman, disguises himself in her clothes, and contrives to trick Aladdin and the princess into incurring the genie’s wrath by wishing for the egg of the mythical roc bird—the genie’s master. #aladdin #magician #cave #ring #lamp #princess #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
