Imagine extending your love of dance into a solo trip around the globe on foot. Janet Quin-Harkin and Anita Lobel put that outlandish scenario into play in Peter Penny’s Dance. A young English sailor wagers the captain of his ship that he can dance around the world—if he wins, he will marry the captain’s daughter Lavinia. He dances here and there, passing by people from lands near and far: French villagers, Spanish matadors, Masai warriors, Indian temple-goers, the emperor and empress of China, Hawaiian islanders, and villagers at a New England Thanksgiving feast. Finally, despite rough and stormy seas, he makes it home to Lavinia, who is only too grateful to have her wedding to a rich merchant interrupted. Quin-Harkin’s fanciful tale and Lobel’s bright, energetic drawings make for a rollicking read. #dance #dancing #dancer #travel #traveling #travelling #traveler #traveller #voyage #journey #world #book #books #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
