Rejoice in the lovely and ever-so-slightly spooky strangeness that is Linda Smith and @marlafrazee’s Mrs. Biddlebox. The story opens in a strange house on a strange hill. The ill-tempered Mrs. Biddlebox, her only companion an energetic goose, wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. So peeved is she by her surroundings that she decides to cook and eat the day itself. Into her pot go the ingredients: shadow, fog, sun, and sky. She bakes the resulting dough into a cake and devours it with gusto. Then she climbs the stairs to the very top of her house and goes to sleep surrounded by comforting swirls of starry night. Smith’s rhyming text leavens the faintly eerie premise with a healthy sprinkling of mischief, while Frazee’s illustrations swirl with the irresistible flavor of magic realism. #house #bad #day #bake #cake #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
