Halloween inches closer, and this week of seven pumpkin books continues with The Magic Pumpkin, written by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault and illustrated by Robert J. Lee. The narrator heads out into the garden to choose a pumpkin to carve into a jack-o’-lantern. One pumpkin whispers that it will keep foolies out of the yard. Intrigued, the narrator selects it and gives it eyes, a nose, and a jagged grin. However, a wild little band of foolies soon tramples into the yard, and the pumpkin is revealed to be the leader of their puckish gang. Vexed, the narrator snuffs out the candle inside the treacherous gourd, which quickly withers away. Martin and Archambault’s loose rhythm is augmented by Lee’s wiggly, blotched art. #magic #pumpkin #jackolantern #halloween #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
