The act of passing through a doorway carries with it a great deal of symbolism in the stories and visual art of our culture. Door by JiHyeon Lee uses that elementally simple concept as the jumping-off point for a charming adventure. Amid a throng of standoffish strangers, a boy finds a key. Led by a strange insect, he uses it to unlock the door to another world, where strange anthropomorphic animal creatures speak an unintelligible language. He spends the day in this community as they celebrate a joyous wedding, and he leaves happy and restored. Lee’s irresistible drawings, wild figures against sparse backgrounds, subtly evoke a bizarre but welcoming alternate universe. #door #key #portal #animal #animals #adventure #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
