The book of the day is Tatterhood and the Hobgoblins by @laurenmillsart. The story brims with enchantment, drama, and high adventure. A queen with no children falls afoul of a troupe of hobgoblins, who demand to be given one of a set of twins she will bear. The specified twin, Tatterhood, is as wild and unruly as the other is sweet and demure. At the age of twelve, the rowdy girl does battle with the hobgoblins, who deviously swap her sister’s head with that of a calf. Tatterhood successfully restores her sister to human form, and the two go on to marry noble brothers from another land. Mills presents an elegant retelling, accompanied by grand illustrations in pen and ink and watercolor. A note for folklore enthusiasts: The original tale, collected in Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe’s Norske Folkeeventyr, features as antagonists a pack of trolls and witches. In addition to changing the name of the supernatural creatures, Mills adds the episode in which they confront the queen before the birth of her children. #sister #sisters #goblin #king #prince #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
