When you start getting drowsy and waves of sleep begin to wash over you, what words or phrases come to mind? Sometimes I think of beloved verses from childhood. To that end, here is Eugene W. Field’s poem Wynken, Blynken, and Nod, with illustrations by Giselle Potter. Three small sailors ride in a wooden shoe through the night sky. They speak to the kindly the kindly moon, fish for herring (which turn out to be the stars, and descend homeward just in time for bed. Ultimately, the three are revealed to be sleepily closing eyes and a nodding head, while the shoe is a trundle bed, ready for a young one to lie down for the night. Potter’s fanciful art serves as a lovely complement to Field’s gentle rhymes. #moon #star #stars #night #sky #bed #dream #dreams #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
