You won’t know whether to laugh or shudder as you turn the pages of Grandpa’s Ghost Stories by James Flora. A young boy listens to a storm raging outside. One particularly loud clap of thunder gives him a jolt of fear and sends him scurrying onto his grandfather’s lap. To calm his nerves, Grandpa begins telling him ghost stories—perhaps three tales, each flowing directly into the next, or perhaps a single narrative split into three episodes. Flora creates one ghoulish image after another—a bag of bones in an old shack, a witch’s cave filled with slimy creatures, and an eerie ghost in a house of mud and blood. Both the writing and the art treat the macabre spectacles with a starling blend of humor and horror. #grandpa #ghost #stories #story #storyteller #storytelling #skeleton #witch #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
