Sheila MacGill-Callahan and Gennady Spirin present a lyrical Irish tale in The Children of Lir. A king with twin sons and twin daughters marries his late wife’s sister. The new queen, long having nursed a grudge against her nieces and nephews, turns them into four swans. Having lost his beloved family, the king goes mad with grief, and the queen takes over the kingdom. With the help of hordes of animals, including an enormous talking whale, the four siblings must break the queen’s evil curse and return to human form. MacGill-Callahan takes inspiration from an Irish myth for her sweeping, magical narrative, and Spirin contributes his signature visual style of old-world splendor. #children #swan #swans #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
