Today I am basking in the gentle strangeness of Sonia Danowski’s Smon Smon. The book takes place on Gon Gon, an alien world populated by bizarre yet recognizable flora—pon pons, lon lons, ron rons—and fauna—Klon Klons and Flon Flons. All the terms, though patently ridiculous, soon become quite understandable through the context of Danowski’s understated prose (originally published in German) and her soft-textured illustrations rendered in pen, ink, and watercolor. #planet #plant #plants #animal #animals #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
