What do you do to relax during stormy weather? Do you make a nice, warm cup of tea? Listen to the rain? Perhaps you curl up with a good ghost story? Take a look at One Stormy Night by Ruth Brown, a faintly eerie original tale whose simple narrative contains a bit more than meets the eye. A little white dog prowls around outside a manor house on the lonely moor. Each animal it encounters—a black cat, a gray mare, a white owl—seems to react with shock and fear. Once dawn breaks, we finally learn why the other beasts are so perturbed: the dog the dog enters a lonely chapel, jumps up onto an old knight’s tomb, and rejoins its master as a statue. Brown’s spare text and evocative illustrations all build cleverly towards the reveal of the jocund little creature as an undead spirit out for a stroll. #stormy #night #storm #dog #cat #horse #owl #ghost #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
