Firebird Sequel Week continues with a cheerful version by Bernard Lodge. When a tsar’s apples are mysteriously stolen, his three sons try to catch the culprit in the act. While the two older princes fall asleep on the job, young Ivan discovers that a Firebird is robbing his father’s tree. Thus begins a quest in which Ivan must obtain a magic horse to trade for the Firebird and a fair princess to trade for the horse, all with the help of a clever, magical gray wolf. Lodge’s bright colors and merry line art make for a winning adaptation. A note for folklore enthusiasts: Lodge adapts the story from “Tsarevich Ivan, the Firebird, and the Gray Wolf”, a tale collected by Aleksandr Afanas’ev in Narodnye Russkie Skazki. #firebird #prince #wolf #russia #russian #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
