Now, here is one of my absolute favorite picture books of all time: Heckedy Peg, written and illustrated by @audreywoodauthor and Don Wood. The creative team (and married couple) achieves a true unity of word and image, the spare and elegant language complemented by the haunting beauty of the oil paintings. This story of a mother protecting her seven children from a menacing witch, though it reads like a classic fairy tale, is in fact an original narrative inspired by a sixteenth-century children’s game. The folkloric elements lend the book a striking and timeless quality that transports me straight back to my childhood as I hold it in my hands. Once read, never forgotten. #audreywood #donwood #heckedypeg #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
