A staple of my childhood: Snow-White and the Seven Dwarfs, by poet Randall Jarrell and illustrator Nancy Ekholm Burkert. Jarrell’s translation remains scrupulously faithful to the German of the Brothers Grimm, while Burkert’s detailed paintings give the story in a series of arresting tableaux. While she prominently features Snow-White herself in a number of scenes, Burkert never allows us a glimpse of the evil queen’s face, instead highlighting the character‘s expressive body language (and the delightfully macabre components of her shadowy magical laboratory). #nancyekholmburkert #randalljarrell #snowwhite #snowwhiteandthesevendwarfs #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
