There’s a remarkable synesthesia at work on the pages of Carol Ann Duffy and @catherinehydeartist’s The Princess’s Blankets. Duffy gives us the pensive tale of a princess incapable of feeling warmth and an ominous stranger whose perverse attempts to present her with a suitable blanket threaten the very order and structure of the natural world. Her poetic verbal descriptions mesh with Hyde’s deeply textural paintings (augmented with gleaming highlights through foil stamping during the printing process) to produce sensations of tactility, phantom qualia that encourage us to feel the princess’s harrowing elemental affliction for ourselves. #catherinehyde #carolannduffy #princess #blanket #blankets #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
