Here is Marguerite W. Davol and Sheila Hamanaka’s The Heart of the Wood, a gentle, soothing read that celebrates music, community, and joy. Davol’s poetic text, an adaptation of the cumulative nursery rhyme This Is the House That Jack Built, follows a piece of wood from its home in nature to a sawmill, to a workshop, and finally, in a new form, back to the forest. Hamanaka’s oil paintings on bark paper employ a combination of techniques: impressionistic brush strokes capture the lush beauty of nature, while expressionistic portraits convey the spirit and energy of the people and animals throughout. #margueritewdavol #sheilahamanaka #music #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #classicchildrensbooks #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
