The book of the day is The Princess and the Lord of Night by Emma Bull and Susan Gaber. At first glance, you’ll see a fantasy tale full of adventure, danger, and excitement, but look closer—there’s more here than meets the eye. Our royal heroine has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Lord of Night’s curse: her kingdom and her parents’ lives will be lost if even her slightest desire goes unfulfilled. She has therefore grown up with an abundance of marvelous gifts, her family anxiously satisfying her every whim. Though she does ride out on a quest to break the spell, her true journey comes not from her travels but through personal growth. Each time she relinquishes one of her wondrous possessions, she takes a metaphorical step closer to maturity and freedom. Finally, with the combination of a well-earned magical artifact and her own innate cleverness, she squares off against her wicked nemesis once and for all. Bull’s artful prose honors the princess’s courage and conviction, while Gaber’s illustrations contrast her calm nature against the unstable wrath and menace of the eldritch Lord of Night. #susangaber #emmabull #princess #lordofnight #magic #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbook #beautifulbooks #beautifulbookcover #beautifulbookcovers #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
