Here’s a little something for your enjoyment: The Blue Jackal by Marcia Brown. In this engaging tale, adapted from the Panchatantra, an ancient Indian collection of fables believed to have been written originally in Sanskrit, a clever jackal known as Fierce-Howl takes advantage of an accidental tumble into a vat of indigo dye by passing himself off as a divine creature to a credulous pack of forest animals, who venerate him and crown him king. Through vividly colored woodcut prints, Brown conveys the expressive faces of the anthropomorphic animals, as well as subtle textural details of their fur and hide and of the lush plantlife around them. #marciabrown #blue #jackal #panchatantra #india #sanskrit #animals #book #books #childrensbooks #beautifulbooks #picturebook #picturebooks #picturebookillustration #picturebookillustrations #picturebookart #childrensbookillustration #childrensliterature #illustration #kidlit #kidsbooks #bookworm #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #instabook #instabooks
